Retro Connect is a simple idea with a powerful impact:  Bringing back the habits that helped build strong communities.  In a fast-paced, digital world, many of the everyday connections that once shaped our neighborhoods and relationships have faded.  Retro Connect invites us to rediscover those “old school” ways of connecting with people—face-to-face, neighbor-to-neighbor, friend-to-friend.

Why Retro Connect?

Real relationships are built through small, intentional moments.  A helping hand when someone needs it.  Taking time to visit with and know those around you.  A cup of coffee and conversation.  Retro Connect encourages people to become catalysts for connection, turning ordinary moments into opportunities to strengthen community.

How It Works

Each month, we will focus on a simple theme that encourages meaningful connection.  Participants are invited to try small, practical actions that bring people together and create space for authentic relationships.

See details below about our focus for this month.

July & August Theme:  Getting to know your neighborhood

Our next Retro Connect theme is so important that we're stretching it over two months!  Throughout July and August, we'll be focusing on Getting to Know Your Neighborhood.

We've encouraged you before to connect with your neighbors, but summer offers plenty of natural opportunities to spend time outdoors and build new relationships.

Some of you joined Eric Jones's recent How to Throw a Block Party presentation between services.  His biggest takeaway?  Keep it simple.  Invite your neighbors to gather, let them know when and where to meet, and ask them to bring a lawn chair, a favorite snack or a drink.  It doesn't have to be elaborate to be meaningful.

Not ready to host a block party?  That's okay!  Invite one, two or a handful of neighbors to pull up a chair in your driveway or front yard and spend a little time getting acquainted.  Consider reaching out to someone who lives alone or someone who might appreciate getting to know others in the neighborhood.

Looking for another easy way to connect?  Help your kids set up a lemonade stand—or stop by one that's already in the neighborhood.  It's a simple way to meet people and support young entrepreneurs.

Have fun, enjoy the summer and keep connecting!
