On Tuesday, August 23 from 12:00-4:00 p.m. Marshall is hosting a watch party for whoever is interested of “The Future of Christianity.” The watch party will be at St. Luke. Below is information about what we will be watching and discussing.
We live in a time of widespread uncertainty about the future of Christianity. If you have ever felt conflicted about the religion’s history of violence, prejudice, and domination — know that you are not alone. Considering the unprecedented crises our world faces, we urgently need to find a new way of being in the world together that bridges difference and embodies the reality of all life as sacred and connected. In that spirit, the Center for Action and Contemplation (CAC) invites you to join us for a virtual discussion on the current state and future of the Christian religion, featuring CAC faculty members Brian McLaren (author of Do I Stay Christian? and host of Learning How to See), Barbara Holmes (author of Crisis Contemplation and host of Cosmic We), James Finley (author of The Contemplative Heart and host of Turning to the Mystics), and Richard Rohr (author of The Universal Christ and host of Another Name for Every Thing).
There is no cost but all participants do need to register at the link below:
The Mahjongg Group usually meets on the fourth Tuesday of the month in St. Luke’s Great Room (use only the west bell tower doors). If you have a Mahjongg game and/or 2022 Mahjongg card, please bring them with you. Please also bring your own beverage. For more information contact the Church Office at churchoffice@stlukeumc.com
We always welcome new/additional people to this group. Our purpose for this group is fun and socializing! Whether you already play or would like to learn, we welcome all adults! This is the traditional game that was developed in 19th Century China and has now spread throughout the world—it is a tile-based game in which each player draws and discards tiles to form a legal “hand.”
The Administrative Council meets on the fourth Tuesday of each month from 6:00-7:00 p.m. All St. Luke members and attenders are encouraged to attend as we usually have reports from all St. Luke committees and staff and we discuss plans and other things related to St. Luke.
The Administrative Council meetings are Zoom only (see the Zoom details in the weekly email).
New persons are always welcome in our Chancel Ringers (bell choir).
